Prairie Village police captured one of the two suspects now in custody for the robbery of the Bank of America branch at 95th and Mission Road Wednesday evening. The other suspect was captured by Overland Park and Leawood police.
The two suspects entered the bank shortly before 5 p.m. armed with handguns, according to Overland Park police. Two people inside the bank were injured, but the injuries are not life-threatening and it is not clear if they are bank employees or customers, police said. Police thought for a time that a third suspect might still be inside the bank because employees and customers did not immediately come out after the suspects were captured. A tactical unit entered the bank before it was determined that only two people were involved.
Overland Park police said witnesses saw the two black males enter the bank with weapons and called police and an alarm inside the bank also was tripped. No hostages were taken, police said, and no shots were fired. The suspects took cash and fled on foot. Prairie Village police caught the first suspect near the bank parking lot to the west and the second was caught in the McDonald’s lot across the street. The bank, on the southwest corner of the intersection, is in Overland Park, but just across the street from both Prairie Village and Leawood.
