Yay for Major League Baseball! Yay for Joyce DiDonato singing the National Anthem at Game 7!

Major League Baseball got it right (eventually)! Now all we need is for the Royals to win tonight to make sure everything pans out…

MLB on Monday announced that Prairie Village native and world famous mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato will sing the national anthem at Wednesday’s World Series Game 7, assuming the Royals win tonight and prevent the Giants from wrapping the series up. The Kansas City Symphony will play the anthem ahead of Tuesday’s game.

DiDonato was the clear favorite to sing the anthem in the Kansas City Star’s poll, but she didn’t receive the call to sing before the first two games at Kauffman Stadium. Country singer Tricia Yearwood sang before Game 1. American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips sang before Game 2.

DiDonato posted a YouTube video Monday night after she got the news thanking fans for the opportunity:
