Four candidates have filed to run for the Ward 3 Roeland Park City Council seat that was vacated by Mel Croston on September 30. The window to file for the seat closed Tuesday.
The four Roeland Park residents who have filed for the office are:
David J. Gauwitz
5310 Juniper
Tom Riddle
4901 W. 57th Terrace
Ryan Kellerman
5629 Roeland Drive
Scott Ferrel
5531 Sherwood Drive
The election will be held December 9 at a polling place set up just for Ward 3 residents. Roeland Park fills unexpired council terms by special election rather than by appointment, which is the practice followed in many other area cities. This is the second special election for Roeland Park City Council this year. Robert Myers, Jr. resigned in March.
Ward 3 represents the southwest section of the city. Megan England is the other councilor from Ward 3. Croston was elected to the council for the first time in 2013, so the remainder of her term stretches to April 2017.
