Paul Ryan to campaign for Pat Roberts in Mission Hills. The Johnson County Republican Party announced Tuesday that U.S. Rep. and former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will appear with U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts at a campaign event at Mission Hills Country Club Friday afternoon. Rep. Kevin Yoder and former Rep. Jan Meyers are listed as attendees as well.

Lancers qualify for state golf tournament with regionals win. The SM East girls golf team qualified for the state 6A tournament with a win at regionals Tuesday. The Lancers took the regional at Tomahawk Hills Golf Club with 354 team strokes, easily beating out second and third place finishers Blue Valley and Blue Valley North. Jessica Parker led the Lancers with an 83 stroke outing, good enough for second place in the individual rankings. Teagan Noblit finished third overall with 85, and Marti Fromm finished in fourth with 91. Haley Bell rounded out the top ten individuals with a 95.

Paving will close parts of Johnson Drive. The final two inches of asphalt is scheduled to be placed on Johnson Drive this week. Sections of Johnson Drive will be closed to reduce the possibility of drivers crossing over the new asphalt and tracking it into the new cement parking stalls. Depending on weather, the first closures could start today. A ribbon cutting for the rebuilt Johnson Drive is scheduled for November 14.

Westwood to hold public safety workshop. The Westwood Public Safety Department invites citizens to a workshop at Westwood City Hall from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on October 22. The department will offer crime prevention techniques and talk about crime trends. Police are also asking for citizen feedback on how the department is doing and what could be done better.

Proposals for demolition of Neff Printing being taken. The City of Mission has started the process for the demolition of the Neff Printing building near Panera on Mission’s west side. The site is proposed for a new senior citizen apartment complex.
