Another Lancer athlete has committed to competing at the college level.
SM East senior and Mission Hills resident Rilye Fries has given a verbal commitment to the University of Nebraska swim team. Fries is a butterfly specialist who swims for the Kansas City Blazers in addition to her high school program.
Fries accepted official visits to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Arizona State in addition to Nebraska, but said the Husker program had a number of elements that made it seem like the right fit.
“The facilities are amazing, and there is this great support program,” she said. “I’m also interested in neurology, and the school has a great program with internship opportunities.”
Fries isn’t the first member of her family to swim at the college level. Her sister Marston, who is three years older, signed on to swim at the University of Connecticut. However, after tearing her hip flexor her freshman year, Marston wasn’t able to swim competitively any longer and transferred to the University of Kansas.
Rilye has already amassed an impressive stat sheet as a swimmer, being a USA Swimming Junior National and National qualifier as well as a Scholastic All-American. She will move to Lincoln to begin workouts with the Husker team this August.
