SM East’s girls golf team wrapped up its third consecutive Sunflower League Championship Wednesday with a dominating performance at the Olathe East Invitational played at St. Andrew’s Golf Club.
SM East took the team tourney win with a score of 336, besting second place Lawrence Free State by 44 strokes. The win was good enough to put the Lancers firmly atop the title standings after the three rounds of league championship play. Olathe Northwest finished second behind the Lancers in the title standings.
On Wednesday, SM East was led by outstanding performances from four team members. Jessica Parker continued her excellent season with a first place finish in the individual standings with a round of 81. Taegan Noblit finished just a stroke behind Parker for second place, and Haley Bell finished with 83 strokes on the day, but lost a scorecard playoff that put her in fourth place overall instead of third. SM East’s Riley Ricket finished in tenth overall with a round of 90.
SM East’s team will head into state regionals play next Monday, Oct. 13, at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course in Shawnee.
The Lancers won the 2012 state title, but fell short of a repeat last year.
