Leslie Brett, Chuck Matney team up for new flower store at Westwood Hills Shops

Two familiar northeast Johnson County names are joining forces to open a new flower store in Westwood Hills.

Leslie Brett is working with Chuck Matney, who operated Matney Floral at the Fairway Shops for a quarter of a century before it closed in 2012, on a new floral and gift shop expected to make its debut in Westwood Hills in early November. The new store will be called The Little Flower Shop.

Brett and her husband George will own the store with Matney serving as manager.

“Leslie and George were great clients for years, and we’d been looking to do something together for a while,” said Matney.

Brett said the pair had been looking for space for quite some time, exploring locations in Prairie Village and Fairway, but decided the Westwood Hills Shops space vacated by Annedore’s Fine Chocolates as it moved into a larger space a few doors down would be an excellent fit.

“My kids went to Westwood View, so I got familiar with that area of town and I’ve always really liked it there,” she said. “My last son graduated high school in May, so it was a good time for me to find something to stay busy. Bascially, it’s the perfect spot for us.”

The store will offer a mix of products similar to those at Matney Floral: fresh floral arrangements, floral design services for parties and small weddings, and gifts. Brett said she hopes the new store will be open around the first week of November.

Annedore’s, the well-regarded chocolate shop, opened up in its new space at the Westwood Hills Shops Sept. 2.
