The new Leawood Dog Park opening has been delayed slightly, but it is very close. The new tentative opening date is set for September 23 at 10 a.m.
The park, known as Leawoof Dog Park, is just to the east of Leawood City Park and is planned to include about five acres enclosed by fence and a one-acre section for small dogs. In an update Friday – which was the original opening day – the city said wet weather caused a short delay.
However, most of the work is completed to get the grounds open for some good running around. Here is the updated information from the parks department:
“The staff has completed the fence and installed the gates, as well as the water fountain at the entrance. We were able to get the concrete pads for the shade structures, benches and dog waste stations poured and the waste stations set by getting in front of the weather.
Construction has left a large amount of bare ground at the entrance and a small area inside the fence, so we will be installing sod as soon as it can be cut and installed. Signage is being set by our staff now.
The delivery of signage and the recent wet weather have caused a delay. Please bear with us as we work to make this an exceptional space for you and your four-legged friends.”
