Tennis aficionados in Prairie Village have likely noticed the major work under way at the Harmon Park courts — we’ve gotten a couple of emails on the construction, so figured it was worth checking in with Public Works on what’s happening over there.
The courts were starting to show signs of major wear, and drainage problems were causing cracks on the surfaces to deepen. As part of this year’s parks improvement projects, crews are in the process of reconstructing all 10 of the Harmon Park courts. They are adding a ribbon curb around the courts and then five inches of rock, which should help improve the drainage situation. Each court will then be topped with five inches of new asphalt.
Public Works director Keith Bredehoeft said he expects the project to be completed by mid November.
