The Shawnee Mission School District announced Wednesday that 21 of its students had made the selective National Merit Semifinalist list for the 2015 program.

Seven of those students are from SM East and two are from SM North. The students are listed below.
SM East:

  • Shaon Borosha
  • Ali Dastjerdi
  • Akshay Dinakar
  • Mae Heitmann
  • Clara Ma
  • Shrushti Mehta
  • Hunter Sodek

SM North:

  • Bronwyn McNaughton
  • Emily Stava

SM East led the district in the number of students selected for the list. SM Northwest was second with six students.

Inclusion on this year’s National Merit Semifinalist list is based on students’ performance on the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 16,000 students make the semifinalist list, less than 1 percent of high school seniors. Last year, 11 SM East students and one SM North student made the cut.

The Shawnee Mission students will be honored at a reception with the board of education Oct. 16.
