Coach Jamie Kelly on prepping his team for 2014
Listen to Lancers head coach Jamie Kelly discuss how he’s tried to get his teams to focus on preparing for fresh competition in 2014.
[/pullquote]The varsity, junior varsity, C and D squads played in the heat of the late afternoon sun for more than an hour at the annual Blue/Black Scrimmage on the Indian Hills fields. The varsity team opens its season Friday with a game against rival SM West.
“We’re very happy with the way try outs went,” said head coach Jamie Kelly. “We’ve got a large varsity squad with lots of seniors and juniors. There’s a lot of depth, which is important at the high school level.”
Captains on the varsity team this year are goalkeeper Michael Moedritzer, and midfielders Will Fenimore and Josh Zillner.
“Any time you return guys in the center-mid, that’s a big deal,” he said. “They’ve already shown a lot of leadership over the summer.”
Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m. at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.
