Prairie Village Post Office branch opening in Village Shops Monday; Saturday last day at old location

The Prairie Village U.S. Postal Service retail operation will move to the Village Shops in two weeks.
The Prairie Village U.S. Postal Service retail operation on 73rd Terrace will close tomorrow at 1 p.m. The new Village Shops location will open at 8:30 a.m. Monday and hold an open house all day.

The Prairie Village Post Office branch will makes its move Saturday to its new location in the Village Shops.

Postal customers can use the old post office on 73rd Terrace until 1 p.m. this Saturday. Any mail that is left will be transferred to the new location at 6917 Tomahawk Rd. on Saturday afternoon and the new retail outlet will be ready to open Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.

All post office box holders will have the same box numbers. Each box customer had a new key distributed in their post office box in the last several days, according to Stacy St. John of the postal service. The old boxes that had dials and codes will no longer be used and none of the boxes will have the glass fronts.

The hours for the new Village Shops location will be 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The retail counters at the branch will close from 1 to 2 p.m. for lunch each weekday, but customers will have access to a self-service kiosk and an employee will be available for assistance, St. John said.

One change for postal customers is that any mail that cannot be delivered on the first attempt and has a delivery receipt will be available for pickup at the main Shawnee Mission Post Office on Broadmoor in Mission, not at the Prairie Village location.

The new branch will host an open house all day Monday with refreshments and postmaster Eric Henry will be on hand to greet customers.
