Johnson Drive parking poured on northeast section. Mission’s Johnson Drive project is moving on schedule with cement for parking areas being poured in the northeast section and demolition started this week in the northwest section, taking out the parking areas there. Street lights have been removed on both sides of the street which was anticipated and Mission police are providing focused patrols until new lights are installed.

First Google Fiberhood hits goal. The Rainbow Boulevard fiberhood has met its sign up goal for service to be offered there. The Rainbow area is essentially Westwood, Westwood Hills and Mission Woods. Only 17 more signups are needed in the Cedar Roe fiberhood, which is Roeland Park west of Roe. The Google Fiber site shows more than 200 still needed in the Shawnee Indian Mission area, which is primarily the remainder of Roeland Park. The signup period has 28 days left.

Public can help with county parks plan.  The Johnson County Parks and Recreation District will hold four open houses over Aug. 26 and Aug. 27. During the forums, the public weigh in on a new strategic plan for the county’s parks. The three-hour sessions will start at 5 p.m. The closest to NEJC will be at the Antioch Library on SM Parkway on Aug. 26.

Back to School Bash in Roeland Park.  The Roeland Park Aquatic Center will hold its Back to School Bash at 4 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature games and music. The normal swim schedule will resume at 6 p.m.
