The city of Fairway is considering a slate of guidelines to which homeowners would have to adhere if they wanted to put a Little Free Library in their front yards. (At present, the city’s guidelines don’t explicitly allow or ban such structures, so the city decided to formalize its codes as they pertain to Little Free Libraries).
The proposed regulations would require that Little Free Libraries:
- Are placed outside of the right-of-way
- Are no taller than 5 feet from grade
- And are somewhere between 2 and 5 cubic feet
Do you think these proposed restrictions are reasonable? Leawood will likely be considering a similar set of regulations in the future. What kinds of restrictions do you think would be too much for a city to enact?
