The commercial real estate firm representing the owners of 7501 Mission Road, the aging Medical & Professional Building that sits across from SM East, is preparing to move forward with the likely redevelopment of the property.

Kessinger/Hunter & Company broker Greg Thornhill said the company had security fencing placed around the property last week as it begins actively exploring plans for demolition and redevelopment on the site. Thornhill has met with Prairie Village city staff in recent weeks to present preliminary concepts for a new building on the property, which would include space for both retail and office tenants.

Though Thornhill said is was still possible the company could sell the property to someone else looking to redevelop it, he said it was much more likely at this point that the owners would oversee the redevelopment themselves. The owners’ current redevelopment plans for the site would call for the existing structure to be razed completely. The demolition of the current building is likely to take place before the end of this calendar year, Thornhill said.

Thornhill has been in contact with the Prairie Village Police Department and Consolidated Fire District No. 2 to discuss using the property for training purposes prior to its demolition.
