Spotted in Northeast Johnson County: Lots of wonderful wildlife

We’ve gotten a number of cool submissions in the last couple weeks from readers who’ve spotted and snapped wildlife — or at least the houses of wildlife.

HawksnestWe’ll start with this shot from Jack Rooker of Fairway, who found a huge red tailed hawk’s nest that had fallen from a tall white pine along Brookridge Drive in Fairway. “Fortunately, no hawklets were harmed,” said his dad, Tom.

Speaking of hawks, reader Eddie James posted this picture of a big ol’ specimen perched atop the baseball field backstop fencing at Briarwood Elementary. I can’t quite make out the species…but would love to field guesses:

ChipmunkAnd, finally, we’re as excited as this excitable little chipmunk to pass along this photo from reader Linda Neal, who caught this cheeky fellow raiding the birdfeeder.

Thanks to everyone as always for sending in your pics. If you happen to snap a shot of some cool wildlife in the area, we’d love to run it. Just post it on our Facebook page or email us at stories@shawneemissionpost.com.
