Roeland Park city administrator Aaron Otto this week sent out the text of the final version of the anti-discrimination ordinance amendment the city is scheduled to vote on Monday, July 21.

The text reflects only very minor changes from the version the council reviewed at its last work session on the ordinance, with just one clarification to one definition having changed. Roeland Park councilors Megan Englund and Jennifer Gunby first introduced the ordinance in March, and the city council was initially set to vote on it in April. But lengthy deliberations over the specifics of the ordinance led the council to postpone the vote first to May, then again to June, and finally to next week.

Otto said it was possible that the council could table the vote on the ordinance Monday, but that “have not heard anyone state that desire to do so.”

If passed, the ordinance would make Roeland Park just the second city in Kansas to offer protections to residents based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The City Council meeting during which the vote is scheduled to take place will start at 7 p.m. at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr.
