The cities of Leawood and Fairway will in the coming weeks be exploring options for amending their city codes to allow Little Free Libraries – and it appears that both cities are looking into establishing guidelines for Little Free Library size and aesthetics. One Leawood councilor last night, for example, suggested that the city should consider requiring homeowners to paint Little Free Libraries the same color as their house.
Do you think it makes sense for cities to try to dictate how a Little Free Library should look? If so, what kinds of restrictions would be appropriate? Should cities dictate what kinds of materials or colors are used in constructing the structures?
