Roeland Park residents and elected officials gathered at the city’s community center Wednesday for a special celebration. The city turned 63 years old that day, and the organizers of an effort to raise funds to renovate R Park wanted to recognize both that milestone as well as a milestone of their own: Having raised the first $6,300 (and more) for the park project.

People who donated to the campaign were invited to share birthday cake with Mayor Joel Marquardt and other officials.

“The people who donated have given a real gift to the city of Roeland Park,” said organizer Gretchen Davis.
