As lobbying effort for greenspace purchase mounts, a look at the Homestead property marketing document

A group of Homestead neighborhood residents have started a Facebook page to lobby the city of Prairie Village to move forward with the purchase of the front acreage of Homestead Country Club that has been listed for sale as the club seeks to reorganize.

The property is being listed by The Land Source, a Kansas City area land realtor, for $2,400,000, with the listing noting that the property is the “only greenfield property in this trade area.” The asking price comes out to $400,000 per acre, though sources familiar with the negotiations between the club and the city say the parties have discussed a substantially lower rate than the asking price.

For a point of comparison, Mission Valley Middle School, an 18 acre property, sold to RED Development for $4,350,000.

City Administrator Quinn Bennion said in a statement Monday that Prairie Village has not made a decision about whether to pursue purchase of the property or not.
