Maize offense puts end to SM East baseball season. SM East’s baseball season ended Friday in the first round of the KSHSAA 6A baseball tournament at the hands of Maize. The Lancers looked solid through four innings, holding a 1-0 lead on the strength of Joey Wentz’s pitching. But Maize’s bats came to life in the fifth, when they scored four. SM East scored one in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2, but Maize scored four more in the sixth, putting the game out of reach for the Lancers. Maize faces top seed Manhattan in the second game of tournament play today. Manhattan defeated 9-13 Junction City Thursday 1-0.
Mission reopens some roads, closes others. Progress on road construction projects in the heart of Mission continue. The city reopened Lamar in all directions earlier this week and closed a section of Beverly in preparation for demolition work there. Closures at Woodson and Outlook have been reopened as well.
KosherFest coming to PV Sunday. The Art Show isn’t the only festival in Prairie Village this weekend. Congregation Ohev Shalmon will hold KosherFest, a celebration of Kosher foods and Jewish culture, this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family.
