Gateway developer asked to talk to council. Gateway developer Tomorrow Valenti has been asked to address the Mission City Council at an upcoming committee meeting this summer to talk about progress on the development at Johnson Drive and Roe. In August it will be a full year since the Gateway project held its public groundbreaking. Since then, little visible progress has been made at the site. It has been 17 months since the Mission City Council approved a public financing package to back the project.
SM East swim and dive team favored for fifth straight state title. The Kansas City Star gives the SM East girls swim and dive team high marks in its preview of this weekend’s state meet. “For four straight seasons, the Shawnee Mission East girls swim and dive team has won the Kansas Class 6A state title, and this year they could very well do it again,” they write. “Sophomore Bonnie Longan led the Lancers to their 10th consecutive Sunflower League title this month with a top finish in the 100-yard backstroke and a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay.” The Star also notes that Miege sophomore Cailey Grunhard is likely to have a strong showing in the 5A meet as a freshman. All-Sunflower baseball team packed with Lancers. SM East’s statebound baseball team got a lot of love on this year’s All-Sunflower League teams. Trey Austin and Joey Wentz are listed on the first team. Gunnar Troutwine, Mitchell Tyler and Max Sanborn made second team. Colin Burns, Quinn Appletoft and Charley White all received honorable mentions.
