The amount Roeland Park residents are assessed on their tax bill as a solid waste fee will go up by only $1.56 for the year. The city hopes the new rate can be held steady for three years starting in 2015.
The city council took the same approach last year with the property tax rate, attempting to set a level that could hold up over three budget cycles. The solid waste fee pays for trash pickup, including recycling and yard debris, as well as the city’s leaf program.
The fee in 2015 will be $175.47 per household. As part of the new fee, the administrative cost of $2.90 per household is being dropped.
Roeland Park participates in a joint trash removal contract with Westwood, Roeland Park and Fairway. The provider is Town & Country Disposal. The trash removal portion of the bill is $148.37 for next year and the leaf removal program costs $27.10 per household.
