It’s less than two weeks before Mission opens its new aquatic center and work is in its frantic final stages to get it ready for the first public day on Saturday, May 24. The pool will be dedicated that morning.
The eight-lane, 25-meter competition pool is already filled with water while work continues on the leisure pool that has a maximum three-foot depth and a zero depth entry. The competition pool also had a diving well.
The aquatic center has been built in one off season, from the time the pool closed for business at the end of last summer to be ready for opening day of the 2014 season. A new bathhouse, only retaining the shell of the old structure, is part of the reconstruction and includes a new concession stand.
The pool has bleacher seats for swim meets, a splash area, a slide, and a new green technology filtration system with a UV sanitizer. Expansion room allows for an additional slide and a play area in the future.
The aquatic center rebuild is financed by a bond that is supported through a voter-approved 10-year dedicated sales tax of 3/8 cents which also can be used for park and recreation maintenance.
