Nearly 200 runners of all ages lined up at the starting line of the Corinth Dragon Dash on Saturday — including dozens of teens and adults with years of experience racing.
And for the second year in a row, the fastest female runner on the course was also one of the youngest. Corinth sixth grade Ella Higgins repeated as female Dragon Dash champion with a 24:55. Remarkable as the feat may be, Higgins’ 2014 showing was a bit slower than her performance last year, when she won with a time of 23:31.
“I was trying for that again, but 25 [minutes] is fine with me,” she said. “You feel really good afterwards.”
On the men’s side, Roeland Park’s Rikki Hacker, 36, took the win with a blazing fast 17:20 performance. Hacker says he’s been running competitively since his mid-teens, and tries to run around 25 5Ks each year.
He was followed by Leawood resident Jack Trouve, 16, who finished at 19:49.
