Final margin is 16 votes in Mission mayor’s race. The official final results are in from last week’s election and Steve Schowengerdt is still the new mayor of Mission. Schowengerdt was the winner in the unofficial count by 19 votes when ballots were counted last Tuesday. However, 34 provisional ballots had not been reviewed. After the canvass board met Monday, 27 votes were added to the final totals and Schowengerdt’s margin of victory narrowed by three votes to a final of 874-858. He will take office at the council meeting next week.

Lancers’ luck runs out on the diamond. SM East’s baseball team took its first loss of the season Tuesday against the top ranked team in the Sunflower League. The Lancers took a one-run lead in the third inning, scoring the first run of the game on a passed ball, before giving up four runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth after they failed to handle a string of ground balls. The final score was 7-1. The loss moves SM East to 5-1 on the season, second in the Sunflower League behind Olathe South. Olathe South is the second-ranked team in the state behind Blue Valley West. SM East next takes on SM Northwest Thursday at 7 p.m. at the 3&2 Baseball Stadium, 18300 W 87th St, Lenexa.

LANE4 holding public input sessions on Metcalf redevelopment. LANE4 Property Group on Tuesday announced it would be holding two public input meetings on the development of the Metcalf South and 95 West shopping centers at the intersection of Metcalf Ave and 95th Street in Overland Park. The properties include the Metcalf South Mall, KMart, and the still-operating Red Lobster and Olive Garden. The session will be 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, and Tuesday, April 29 at the Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty Street, Overland Park.

Jill Geller named county park director. The new executive director of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District has been with the district more than 30 years. Jill Geller was named to the position after a national search. She replaces Michael Meadors who retired in December. Geller has been superintendent of recreation since 2004. Fifty-five applications candidates applied for the position.

SM East football hosting youth camp for 4th-8th graders. Aspiring grid-ironists who want to work with the state-runner-up SM East Lancers will have an opportunity at the end of next month. Head coach Dustin Delaney will lead a youth camp May 28-30 on the SM East field. Kids entering 4th-8th grades in the fall of 2014 are eligible to participate.
