Meyers was first elected in April 2007 to fill an unexpired term in Ward 2. He was re-elected in both 2009 and 2013. His current term does not expire until 2017. Meyers is president and CEO of CobraGuard, a company that provides benefits administrative services to companies nationwide. He founded the company in 2001.
He has been involved in a number of civic organizations and has had significant involvement with St. Agnes Catholic Church. He and his wife, Cathryn, have three sons.
In a letter (embedded below) to the governing body and the citizens of Roeland Park, Meyers said health issues made it necessary to leave the council seat.
Roeland Park is unusual for its requirement that a special election be held to fill a council vacancy. Candidates for the office must file by April 11. Voters in Ward 2 will elect the replacement for the remainder of the term in a vote run by the Johnson County Election Office.
