The hundreds of SM East students and fans packed into the gymnasium for Friday’s boys basketball game against the Rockhurst are in for an additional exhilaration at halftime: The unveiling of this year’s Lancer Dancers Hip Hop routine to the SM East community.

The Lancer Dancers, who took first place with their Jazz routine at last year’s National Dance Alliance championships in Orlando, have made a recent custom of debuting their Hip Hop routine to students during the SM East-Rockhurst game.

And judging by the reaction to the routine at recent competitions, the audience is in for a treat.

Last weekend, the team took first place in the Hip Hop category at the 17th Annual Lee’s Summit North Dance Team Invitational, a competition that included team from 60 high schools across Kansas and Missouri. The team also earned showcase designation for with the routine at the Miss Kansas Drill Team Festival at Olathe South Jan. 18.

The team will be perfecting the routine over the next month in preparations for a return to the NDA championships in Orlando March 7-9. Last year, they also took fourth place overall in Hip Hop.
