Governor's Award Image Three schools in northeast Johnson County have won Governor’s Achievement Awards from the Kansas State Department of Education.

Westwood View Elementary, Corinth Elementary and Indian Hills Middle School were given the awards based on their performance during the 2012-2013 school year. To qualify for the award, a school must be “among the top five percent of Kansas schools in reading and math on state assessments at its respective level and must have met one additional measure,” according to a letter from State Commissioner of Education Dr. Diane DeBacker quoted on the Shawnee Mission School District site.

Attendance is the additional measure for elementary and middle schools. This year 42 elementary schools, 10 middle schools and 18 high schools qualified for the award.
