Charles Clark, David Belz and Michael Kelly each indicated they will not run again in Prairie Village. Two candidates have filed for Andre’s seat in Mission: Jay Meyer and Steven Lucas.
Andre, who represents Mission’s Ward 1, was appointed to the seat in 2009 and then elected to a full term in 2010. Andre has two children at Rushton Elementary School and said he chose not to run again to spend more time with his family and career. “I’ve been actively involved with the city for a decade and it is time for me to take a break.”
Andre is a certified leadership coach with the John Maxwell Team. His first city service was on the West Gateway Redevelopment Commission in 2004. Andre said he will remain active in the community. While on the council, Andre said, he focused on budgeting and infrastructure.
“I advocated for increased spending on infrastructure as an investment to attract redevelopment. I believe more emphasis needs to be placed on downtown Mission to redevelop as a mixed use, walkable, urban center at the heart of our city. I believe that Mission needs more transportation and housing choices to remain vibrant in the next decade. I’m especially proud that we created the Rock Creek Trail System.”
Filing is closed for the spring elections in Mission, Prairie Village, Leawood and Westwood. A complete list of candidates and races will run Wednesday. Candidate information will appear as it is received.
The primary will be held on Feb. 25. Only Ward 5 in Prairie Village has a primary. The general election will be held April 1.
