The owner of Dog Pawz Play N’ Stay in north Leawood says a disgruntled former employee is behind a string of signs and letters claiming the facility is unsafe.
A number of Dog Pawz customers received letters in recent weeks making accusations about the facility’s safety record, and signs reading “Dog Pawz Unsafe” popped up along light poles on Mission Road.
Dan Thompson, the company’s owner, says an employee he recently let go is behind the signs and letters. Thompson said he fired a half dozen employees in the previous months for not living up to the company’s standards.
“I had been busy opening our downtown location, and when I took a look at how things were going in Leawood, they weren’t meeting my standards,” he said. “I let people go who weren’t doing the job like I wanted them to do it.”
But Thompson vigorously defends the facility’s safety record, saying they’ve had no significant issues and that pet owners can watch their pets and the facility’s operations anytime via streaming video cameras. He says he has sent the letter below to customers explaining the situation.
