Twenty-one SM North students are candidates to be named the 2013-14 Northman. The Northman tradition goes back at least 60 years at the school.
SM North seniors select 20 candidates for the honor, among the highest award seniors can grant to one of their own. Northman candidates are seniors who show scholarship, leadership, character, service, honor and embody the school tenets: trust, respect, integrity, belief and excellence.
The 2013-2014 Northman nominees are: Adam Alexander, Skyler Barker, AJ Bonci, Duncan Brandt, Ben Burchstead, Colin Dujakovich , Jeremy Garcia , Mario Garcia, Nathan Hauber, Lair Heslop, Brandan Hoffman, Erik Hydeman, Scott Johnson, Noah Kaifes, Max Mayerle , Maceo Mitchell, Andrew Nevins, Jesse Patterson, Sam Stevenson, John Swagerty, Alex Thiessen.
The candidates were presented at an all-school assembly. The student body votes to narrow the finalists down to 10 who will be announced this week. The student body will vote again to determine the top three. Northman and the second and third place finalists will be announced at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game on Feb. 4.
