The SM North award-winning Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) has a perfect record in competitions through the first half of the school year.

SM North swept all three categories in the 2013 Kansas/Missouri JROTC Athletic Challenge. The team also finished first in all four areas of the Lee’s Summit West Interservice Drill Meet in December. They now have an 18-0 record in competition for the school year.

At the Athletic Challenge meet, the Indians competed against six other high schools in seven athletic events, including a modified U.S. Marine Corps combat fitness test. The SM North team took first in male, female and co-ed categories and the number two co-ed team finished second. Jake Buchanan led the male team.

At the Lee’s Summit meet, SM North competed against 11 other high schools in drill competition. Their next meet will be Jan. 11 at SM North and the public can attend. Chief Warrant Officer Dennis Grayless and Chief Chris Neven are the teachers and commanders for the group.
