A last-second shot by Oklahoma City’s Bishop McGuinness high school stopped SM East’s boys basketball team from repeating as champs of the season-opening public-private tournament Saturday — but huge performances by Lucas Jones on the way to the title game earned the junior tourney MVP honors for the second year in a row.

The Lancers defeated Helias High School and Center High School Thursday and Friday on the way to SportsCare Shootout title game against McGuinness. Jones scored 29 points in the game against Center.

Lancers Joey Wentz and Colin Burns were named to the all-tournament team.

SM North opened the tourney with a loss to St. James Academy Thursday, but came back to defeat SM West 74-63 on Friday. The Indians closed out the tournament with a 66-61 loss to Helias.
