Former Prairie Village first lady Helen Taliaferro heads up a knitting group at Claridge Court that’s providing a special “welcome home” for area newborns this Christmas season

Taliaferro and her group meet every Monday afternoon throughout the year to knit blue and pink hats for newborns at six area hospitals. But this year, they’re also knitting special white hats with holiday-themed tassels.

Taliaferro and her husband Monroe, who served as Prairie Village mayor from 1989 to 1999. Last year Prairie Village renamed the former Meadowlake Park on 79th Street in his honor.
