A Prairie Village soccer standout who changed his college jersey number to honor a fellow Lancer has earned wide recognition this year for his exceptional play.

Washington and Lee University junior Zach Colby, who graduated from SM East in 2010, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s 2013 Continental Tire Division III All-South Atlantic Region first team. He also made The Virginia Sports Information Directors College Division All-State Men’s Soccer first team.

Colby changed his jersey number this season from 27 to 14 to honor Tyler Rathbun, the SM East soccer star killed in an ATV accident last November.

Colby’s strong play helped propel the Generals to a 10-3-5 overall record, scoring six game-winning goals this season alone. After three seasons played, Colby is fourth all-time among Washington and Lee players for game-winning goals with 13, and eight for total goals scored at 26.
