Mission sets high goals for holiday donations of food, clothes

Clothing flyerMission has set lofty goals to help those in need during the holiday season. The Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB) is challenging the community to collect 13,000 pairs of socks and cans of food.

Collection boxes are set out at the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center, 6200 Martway, and in Mission City Hall at 6090 Woodson. The donated socks will help the Uplift organization clothe the homeless in the Kansas City area and the canned goods will help the MCVB provide holiday food baskets to families in the Mission community.

On Thursday, Nov. 21, a clothing drive will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sylvester Powell north parking lot. Mission police will help unload items and place them in the collection truck. Coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, socks, sleeping bags, candles and toilet paper are among the items that are needed. The items will be distributed by Uplift.
