Your SM East boys soccer team is officially regional champs — and with one more win, they’ll match the best seasons in school history.

A soggy pitch and altered start time on account of the weather didn’t distract the Lancer from the task at hand Thursday, as they beat higher-seeded Blue Valley 3-0 and earned a trip to the state quarterfinals.

The Lancers controlled the field and the tempo from the start, with Dylan Martz scoring the Lancers’ first goal 10 minutes in. Noah Eidemiller and Will Orth added first half goals as well, putting the Lancers in the position to focus on defense in the second half.

Thursday’s scheduled regional final match between Olathe East and Gardner was moved to Friday on account of weather. KSHSAA won’t set the quarterfinals bracket until all of the regionals are complete, so the Lancers will have to wait to find out who they will face on Tuesday.

Last year’s SM East team became just the second team to make it to the state semi-finals by beating Lawrence 1-0 in the state quarterfinals.
