Lynn Mitchelson of Mission Woods has been named the Johnson Countian of the Year for 2013 by the Johnson County Community College Foundation.
Mitchelson is a banking executive with more than 50 years of business-lending experience in the Kansas City area. More than 25 years were spent in Johnson County following his founding of the Corporate Woods State Bank in 1980. In 2001, he became an advisory director for Executive AirShare, helping to establish a regional fractional air startup in Kansas City.
Since June 2004, Mitchelson has been engaged on three occasions as chairman/CEO of banks operating under regulatory enforcement actions that were required to transform their lending practices to meet higher standards. He is currently helping restore American Bank in his hometown of Baxter Springs, Kan., to a healthy community bank.
Mitchelson was on JCCC’s board of trustees from 1996 to 2011, serving as treasurer, vice chair and chair, and as a member and executive board member of the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees. He has also been a director, president and member of the executive committee of the JCCC Foundation and co-chaired the Some Enchanted Evening gala with his wife, Alicia, in 1990.
He has a long history of volunteer work in the community with multiple organizations. Mitchelson will receive the award at the Foundations 27th annual ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ gala on Nov. 9. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships at JCCC.
