SM East wins 3-0, moves ahead in soccer Regionals play

SME_Soccer_crestThe Shawnee Mission East boys soccer team on Tuesday opened Regionals play with a convincing win over Wyandotte, earning a trip the Northeast Regional #4 Championship against Blue Valley, which edged Lawrence 2-1 Tuesday.

The Lancers’ Ari Throckmorton opened their scoring on the night with goal midway through the first half. Andrew McClanahan found the back of the net with just four minutes left in the first half to put the Lancers up 2-0 at the break. His brother Derrick scored at the end of regulation to make the final 3-0.

Blue Valley, now 13-4-0 on the season is the four seed in the Northeast Regional bracket. SM East, now 12-4-1, are the five seed. The Tigers and the Lancers will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the ANDAC (162nd Street and Antioch Road).
