Last season, SM East’s boys soccer team came within a game of the first trip to the state title match in school history.

Tonight, the Lancers open their bid to make a run at the state title yet again — and they’ve got plenty of momentum behind them.

The Lancers bring a six game win streak during which they outscored their opponents 24-2 into the opening round of the state playoffs tonight. SM East will open Regionals play against 7-7 Wyandotte. The Lancers, now 11-4-1, are the fifth seed overall in the tournament. The game starts at 6 p.m. on field three of the Shawnee Mission Activity Complex at 95th Street and Nieman Road.

The Lancers closed out regular season play last Thursday against Olathe Northwest, a match that saw the Lancers walk away with a 3-0 victory before Senior Night ceremonies after the game. Ari Throckmorton scored twice for SM East. Noah Eidemiller scored as well.

Should the Lancers knock off the Bulldogs tonight, they would face the winner of the Lawrence-Blue Valley game on Thursday.
