A elderly driver heading northbound on Mission Road around 3 p.m. Tuesday sideswiped another car stopped in traffic near the intersection with 83rd Street, causing an accident that closed lanes of traffic and damaged the traffic lights.
After the initial contact, the woman’s vehicle kept traveling north along across 83rd, eventually leaving the road and hitting the wrought iron fence and brick work around the Corinth Place apartment complex.
The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured in the accident. The woman’s vehicle was towed from the scene. KCP&L crews worked for several hours after the accident to restore function to the 83rd and Mission traffic lights.
