Belinder students lend ‘Helping Hands’ at fellow elementary school

A group of students from Belinder Elementary took a trip to Kansas City, Mo., on Tuesday as part of a school-based community service project made up of Belinder fifth graders.

“Belinder Braves Helping Hands” participants made the trip to Garfield Elementary school — east of downtown KCMO – where they read stories to younger students and participated in the school’s Local Investment Community (LINC) after school program. More than 60 Belinder fifth graders made the trip. In addition to reading stories and playing with the students, the Belinder kids donated board games, crafts supplies and sports equipment they had collected.

Belinder physical education teacher LeAnn Carver-Jones leads the project. Belinder Braves Helping Hands has three more service events planned for this school year, including ringing bells for the Salvation Army on the Plaza after Thanksgiving.
