It’s been an up-and-down month for the SM East boys soccer team, with blue skies and stormy weather, both literally and figuratively.
After finishing September with two wins, a tie and a loss, the Lancers had high hopes heading in to last night’s match against district rival SM South, only to fall 3-0. The loss brings the Lancers to 5-4-1 on the season heading into Thursday’s game against SM North.
The September games featured a wild weather event, with the Lancers taking a 1-0 win home from Lawrence Free State after the game was called on account of lightning — with parents and fans driving back from Lawrence through a torrential thunderstorm. Two days later, though, the Lancers were happy to have some extra juice left in their legs as they played Mill Valley to a double overtime 1-1 tie.
Next week, the team will pay special tribute to former SM East soccer star Tyler Rathbun before its game against Olathe North. That game will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.
