Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the blaze that erupted in a north Leawood home Tuesday night, sending its occupant to the hospital in critical condition and causing a total loss to the structure.
It took crews nearly two hours to get the fire — which took off after spreading to the houses’s wood roof — under control. In the process of rescuing the occupant, who was banging on a door or wall when rescuers came around the back of the house, two firefighters suffered cuts from broken glass that sent them to the hospital as well.
