Today marks start of five-day week at Mission driver license office

The Mission driver licensing office will be open Mondays during the summer.
The Mission driver licensing office will be open Mondays starting today.

Need to get that driver’s license renewed today? You are in luck because today marks the first Monday that the Mission License Branch will now be open five days a week. Previously, all license branches were closed on Monday.

Not since the state switched to a four-day week in 1984 have license branches been open all five days. The Mission office is in the Mission West shopping center between Martway and Johnson Drive across the parking lot from Hobby Lobby. The Mission and Wichita offices were part of a Monday trial for the last two summers.

“Almost 6,000 people took advantage of summer Mondays during the eight weeks that our Mission and Wichita offices were offering the additional hours this year,” said Vehicles Director Donna Shelite. “We hope that year-round Mondays will be equally as successful.”
The Mission office will now be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., but tests will not begin after 4 p.m. Despite the extended summer hours, the wait at the Mission branch this summer sometimes stretched for hours.
The Mission and Olathe offices will start an evening hour pilot project this fall where they stay open from 7 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday. No date has been set for the start of the evening hours test.
