It’s only the first day of August, but summer is quickly drawing to a close for students in the Shawnee Mission School District.

School offices are now open and office staffs are back at work. New teachers report for the first time tomorrow. Returning teachers are back in the classroom next week.

SM East held the first of its three fee payment and registration days Wednesday, a process that will be repeated today and next Monday. SM North has already held its payment days. For SM East students today began the necessary chores of obtaining new student identification cards, getting photos taken, paying fees (if not done already online) and picking up class schedules. Students also had a chance to walk the halls, find classrooms and figure out lockers.
