Funeral services will be held Friday morning for the man whose name is on the police department building at Mission City Hall. Robert Sturm served as Mission Police Chief for 22 years before retiring in 2002. His service in the Mission Police Department spanned 36 years from his start as a patrolman.

When he retired in 2002, the city council voted to name the police department building the Robert A. Sturm Safety Center. He had started his law enforcement career with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department in 1964.
In 2001, on Mission’s 50th anniversary, he was selected by Mission residents to be included in the Half Century Club for dedication to Mission over the 50 years.
The services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Unity Temple on the Plaza. A celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sylvester Powell Community Center in Mission. Sturm died on July 17 as a result of cancer. A complete obituary is available here.
