The Karbank building on Shawnee Mission Parkway is well into its reconstruction.

The Karbank building on Shawnee Mission Parkway near State Line Road is undergoing a complete renovation to become the new home of the B.A. Karbank & Co. real estate brokerage. It also will honor the firm’s founder, Barney Karbank, which explains the banner that was posted at the site before today labeling it ‘The Barney.’

In a story last week in the Kansas City Star, Kevin Collison explained the dedication to Barney Karbank and the fact that the company is not taking available public financing incentives for the move to Kansas. His report can be read here.

shawneemissionpost.com reported on the sale of the building and Karbank’s planned move from downtown Kansas City, MO, across the state line earlier this spring.  The building has been stripped down and will get a new exterior look and additional parking as well as the remodeled interior. A fourth floor will be added during the renovation.

The real estate firm plans to occupy one floor and lease the remaining space. Steve Karbank now heads the company.
