At 5’10” and 300 pounds, it’s pretty hard to ignore SM East defensive tackle Dominique Atkinson.

So the Sunflower League Football Blog decided, “Why even try?”

SLFB author Eli Underwood ran a profile on Atkinson this week as part of his pre-season “Player Spotlights.”

Atkinson, a senior, was a foundation of the Lancers’ defense in 2012, and figures to be a major factor in 2013 as well. He notched 38 tackles, forced three fumbles, and recorded a sack last year.

Says Underwood:

Atkinson is the quintessential “immovable object” every team wishes they could plug in at the nose guard position.  SM East had one of the league’s top linebacking cores last season, and I would suggest much of that had to do with Atkinson clogging up interior offensive lineman allowing the middle linebackers freedom to roam unabated.
